The Samueli Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating the safety, effectiveness and the integration of healing oriented practices. The institute has advanced the science of healing worldwide by applying academic rigor to research on healing, well being and resilience. They foster wellness through self-care to create a flourishing society.
With a growing alumni network, the institute faced some challenges in keeping them engaged.
Even after trying to keep their alumni engaged on social media channels, the Samueli Institute could not keep their alumni involved with meaningful conversations. The low engagement rates also led to lower participation rates in events, giving days and other campaigns.
The advancement team made use of multiple software that cost them almost $1400/ year to manage alumni communication. While the tools enabled them to launch email campaigns, they could not bring all the data to a single dashboard and help the team draw actionable insights for better alumni engagement in the next campaign with smart optimization. Also, the need to switch between various tools, often led to the team losing essential alumni data.
The Samueli Institute used Almabase to set up their online alumni community and engage the members with frequent email campaigns.
Samueli Institute can engage 93% of their alumni over email, with numerous campaigns, using the Almabase communications tool. They have run 60 campaigns till date on their constituent database. The two features that enable them to run such timely and successful campaigns are:
1) The feature makes it easy for the team to quickly create their emails and focus only on the content, instead of the design. The easy editing makes it possible for them to customize emails as per the campaign needs.
2) The integrated communications tool on Almabase enables alumni database segmentation. It lets the team create dynamic groups based on filters such as location, previous interaction, alumni batch, alumni interests and more, allowing the team to optimize their messages with more personalization. Being able to do so, lets the institute drive higher engagement rates on each of their campaigns.
The institute is also an active user of the ‘events module’ on Almabase. With the easy setup of a digital alumni community, an integrated communications tool and a flexible payment gateway for ticket collection, the Samueli Institute has hosted 73 events so far on the platform.
The event management team has also been able to easily manage RSVPs, identify no-shows and handle on-site signups, without having to spend too much time on completing the tasks manually. This has led them to focus more on building relationships with their alumni, instead of just focusing on how the event goes.
The Samueli Institute today, actively uses Almabase to keep their growing alumni network engaged with meaningful conversations, fostering stronger relationships.
Since DMBA was just getting started, the institute did not have a budget set aside for such a software. With the alumni convinced that a digital platform was as beneficial for them - for jobs, mentoring, professional networking, etc., the advancement team came up with an idea. They used Almabase itself to run a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the subscription.Read more...
